Royal Bath and West Show 2008 Peweterers’ Cup awarded for Blaengawney Cider Following on from our success in the CAMRA National competition, we have now been awarded this Cup which is for the high standard of all our cider and we’re absolutely delighted! At the Welsh Championships we won 2 silvers and 1 bronze so all ‘n all, we are pretty chuffed. It just shows what you can do by using pure juice with no additives and keeping a high standard of hygiene. As we have only been making cider seriously for the past 4 years, I think we have done well thus far! Order rates are high so it looks as though we’ll have to increase production for next year. Andy completed the Licensee Course which means we can sell at farmers and local food markets legally, Andy is also currently helping another cider maker restore a very ancient press which will be used in cider demonstrations, showing how it was done in the old days. He has also improved the efficiency of our cider making by building a second tray for the press so we were twice as fast last year. This year we are going to invest in a motor for the press to speed things up even further. Cider making courses are available from September so if you are interested, give us a ring! Also, we will be starting to pick the apples for next year’s batch of ciders in September/October so if you fancy a nice day out picking apples, let us know. We can pay you in food and cider!
